Hakodate Kantaro Ugaura Honten (sushi)

"Hakodate Kantaro Ugaura Honten" is the best conveyor belt sushi restaurant in both Hakodate and Sapporo.
Although I usually visit "Kaiten Sushi Nemuro Hanamaru" and "Toriton" at Sapporo Station, I noticed a decline in the quality of their fish cutting and overall taste due to the high number of tourists. However, my recent visit to Kantaro Ugaura Honten in Hakodate completely changed my perception. Initially, I didn't have high expectations, especially after seeing the photo of their fatty tuna belly on the menu, which had white tendons (usually difficult to chew and affects the texture). But after finishing my meal, I was genuinely grateful for trying it out.

Originally, I had planned to visit "Kaiten Sushi Nemuro Hanamaru" next to Hakodate Station, but since I had been to "Kaiten Sushi Nemuro Hanamaru at Sapporo Station many times, I felt like there was something missing. So, I randomly found Kantaro Ugaura Honten and decided to give it a try. Compared to "Hanamaru", which is easily accessible by a single bus ride from the city center, reaching Kantaro Ugaura Honten requires taking a city bus, which takes about 8 minutes. The bus stop is right in front of the restaurant, and they also have a parking lot for those who are self-driving. The restaurant is located in the first row near a bay, offering beautiful bay views during the day.

I ordered a variety of sushi, and the best one was definitely the fatty tuna belly. Initially, I was worried that the specific part and cutting might affect the texture, so I only ordered one plate. However, it turned out to be incredibly delicious, with no tough tendons and instead, a multi-layered sensation of fat marbling. The other sushi pieces were also of excellent quality, with generous and fresh cuts of fish, providing a sweet and savory flavor, especially in the salmon with its rich fat content.

Comparing the photos taken by other visitors at different branches, the quality of this restaurant is far superior. During my visit, there were very few tourists, and it seemed like most of the customers were locals. For anyone visiting Hakodate, I highly recommend trying Hakodate Kantaro Ugaura Honten.
